Short Links (pi.tt) Unavailable During Maintenance Wednesday Evening

Scheduled for Oct 28, 21:00 - 23:00 EDT

Scheduled

The pi.tt URL shortener and any links created by it (e.g. “pi.tt/shortlink”) will be unavailable Wednesday, Oct. 28, from 9 to 11 p.m. while Pitt Digital upgrades the database used by the service.

Impact: During the window, user will not be able to create, edit, or open short links. Anyone who clicks a short link will reach an “Under Maintenance” page with a link to visit https://status.pitt.edu for updates.

Why this is happening: Pitt Digital is moving the short link database to a new server that protects against recent security vulnerabilities in PHP, the programming language behind the service.

What you need to do: Nothing. All short links will work again when maintenance ends. The service will be restored earlier if possible.
